Can you survive without a car?

Can you live without your car?  Hillman Minx

As an experiment Sparky and I have decided to try to live without our car. This will be the first time that I haven’t had a car in 27 years.

When I was a child my parents had a car each.

It seems to me that we rely on cars more and more. I know of a friend that drives to the shop. What’s wrong with that you ask, well he lives less that 300 feet from it!
Has the motor car taken over our lives. Sparky and I reckon that we will save over £2,500 a year by not using the car.
If you put the average amount of fuel in your car a week…. Lets guess that at £30….. Then you are spending £1560.00 a year on fuel alone. Then theirs insurance, M.O.T and Tax:
Here’s a list for you…. You work it out. No wonder the government want us hooked on cars!
Cost of car
cost of insurance
cost of tax
cost of MOT (if 3 years+)
cost of service
cost of tyres
cost of other perishable items
cost of mechanical repairs
cost of repairing car park dings
cost of fuel
cost of filling up your water bottle with antifreeze
cost for parking car
cost of paying fine for not paying enough for parking car

...list goes on forever Join in our discussion and have your vote and say! Click HERE to go to the discussion

Penzance needs you

Penzance needs your vote!Route Partnership’s Isles of Scilly Link project.

"Cornwall Council planners will meet on July 7th to decide the fate of the Route Partnership's ill-conceived plans for Penzance harbour. Objections to the scheme can be lodged with the Council right up until a few days before the hearing. It's very important that as many people as possible object and (after the election) contact their Councillor about the issue (all objections are counted and passed to the planners). Only in Britain

Only in Britain

Only in Britain...are there disabled parking places in front of a skating rink.

Only in Britain...do banks leave both doors open and chain the pens to the desks

Only in Britain...can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

Only in Britain...do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

Only in Britain...do we leave cars worth thousands of pounds on the drive and put our junk in the garage.

Only in Britain...do we buy hot dogs in packs of ten and buns in packs of eight.

Only in Britain...do Supermarkets make the sick people walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in Britain...do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.

Only in Britain...do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process of Government. 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures.'
