@ Treeve I seem to remember this vessel....a coach driver fromnewquay put his passengers on her instead of the Scillonian for a day trip to the Isles.....a rather rough day they ended up I believein Appledore and poorly sick at that !!!
These excellent photographs could be from around 1960 when the Waverley tied up there with paddle damage, I assume that Holmans did the repair. Prior to that she would occasionally put into Pz on one of her coastal cruises, I seem to remember the passengers were mainly from South Wales.
Simply looking at the photo material and the fact of the colour, as well as the 'story' of the passengers' after effects combined with the film, I should say the 1994 would be a 'safe' bet.
Oops - it was unlikely that I saw the Waverly in the nineteen fifties, the one in the picture was on a regular run off the west coast of Scotland at that time. Before the war there was another Waverly operating along the south coast and Bristol Channel which was sadly sunk by the Luftwaffe in 1941. She had been one of a fleet of paddle steamers operated by P. & A. Campbell of Bristol. After the war they had the PS Bristol Queen and the PS Cardiff Queen built to revive the pre-war heyday of the popular holiday sea trips around the coast - including those from South Wales to Brighton. This might be the possible explanation for my sighting in Mounts Bay of “The Flying Welshman” -- all a long time ago.
