Good Morning Tttom1. i am a member of a group on Facebook (Nostalgic Penzance and Newlyn) and we are discussing the Chapel which used to be at the bottom of Market Jew Street just down from the what used to be the Gas Showrooms. You have a photo archived on Picture Penzance which I would love...

Hi penzancesailor,Thanks for the message, I appreciate your encouragement! I was rather ticked off by comments left by keith on the three photos I entered for the last comp. I knew they were not the greatest of night time pics but I did enter for fun and was taken aback by having all three...

I think this may be the last time I enter any photos in the Picture Competition. I had been under the impression that it was a fun competition. Obviously it is for top rate photographers and not rank amateurs such as myself who simply take photos for fun.

Bit difficult to lug a tripod around Venice and this was taken whilst manoeuvering around a crowd of thousands on the Rialto Bridge! Risking losing the camera overboard whilst setting it on the bridge parapet was not an option! PS How do you know the shake was not intended as artistic expression!?

my old home town of penzance

I'm also wondering about some girls I went to Penzance Girls Grammar School with. Anyone know if they still reside in PZ? They are: Virginia Watkins - she married Russell Baxter and use to live somewhere up near the Rec. She used to work in Simpsons up on the terrace. Pamela Tripp -...

BOP, I don't think your memory is playing tricks, it was always a bit dark in there. I think it was because the only natural light came in through the door because the window on the left was to the storeroom and was blocked off so it could be used to display stuff, likewise the window on the...

Trevelyan, Exactly! That's what I've always thought. It was almost as if Ronnie Barker based his character on Mr Nigh! I remember there was barely room to move once you had two customers in the shop. He also had an old fashioned meat slicer which he used to slice ham, I can picture it now.

Wonderful memories!! My grandmother lived in Adelaide Street and I would go to Nigh's with my pennies to buy sweets and also on errands for my grandmother. Remember Mr. Nigh very well, very large man in a brown shop coat, he walked with a distinct limp (not sure if he had a false leg?). I can...

We will be enjoying them 'at source' soon! Making a flying visit to PZ for a family wedding. Bringing with us two Dutch friends who have never visited Cornwall - it's going to be fun showing them around!

    Penzance Character

The person was male. I think if it was the 70's I would remember him as I was a frequent visitor to Penzance at that time as my mother and father were still alive.

    Penzance Character

OK maybe someone will remember this character. I have a friend here who is also from Cornwall, she was recently going home for a wedding and got chatting to someone at the airport who,on hearing she was from Cornwall, remembered childhood vacations in Penzance and a character she said used to...
