A nostalgic picture of a De Havilland Rapide aircraft at St.Just/Land's End airfield ready for service to Scilly.Of the four gentlemen in front,I do not know the one on the left but the others, from left, are Tommy Hall,Jim Walls and Sim Withers.Jim and Sim were aircraft fitters and went on to...
Great picture, brought back many memories.I thought the group was terrific and ,I believe it is Phil at the drums,(looking very smart)who gave me their old bass drum to help us set up a group--did not call them bands in those days.I have always wanted a proper drum set ,perhaps I should put it on...
And away she goes. Some more locals in shot including two of my loco. spotting friends(by the signal ladder)in characteristic pose. This was a sad occasion but more enlightened attitudes by British Rail in later years allowed preserved steam locos. back on the national network and now we are...
Oops, made a mistake, obviously not a Castle class loco. but some of it's successors! These were sometimes known as' Baby' Warships ,smaller Diesel hydraulic cousins of the Warship class.Often worked in pairs on the Penzance to Plymouth trains. No date for this picture but they look nice and clean...

D838 'Rapid ' arrives at Penzance with the 'Riviera' probably about 5pm.No date recorded but probably in the early 1960s.Used to wait for this train to arrive then get a bag of chips from Adelaide fish and chip shop and home for proper tea. Happy days.
Thanks for the great picture, brought back memories.I have an 00 gauge model of this loco. running on my layout based on Marazion. Not wishing to nit-pick but the loco. was no.5934.
