Based on a drawing of 1840, the Chapel of St Nicholas has no surrounding terrace or walling; it stands proud of the rocks amongst which it was built; the door is in the centre of the rear North wall; there was a fireplace in the centre of the chapel, with a chimney rising through the roof; on the West gable was a cross or pinnacle; on the East gable appears to be another chimney, a quarter of the wall width away from the corner. It appears then that it was originally two rooms.
