The Old Penwithians War Memorial, still stands in the hall at Humphry Davy School. It lists the names of all old boys of the school who served in any capacity during the Great War, on four oak panels. The names of the nine individuals who were killed are etched in brass plates. One of those who died was Pte. D.J. McWilliams - possibly the boy third from right on the front row. Eleven other individuals in this photograph served: Pte. W.B. Matthews, Pte. W. Olds, 2nd Lt. J.A. Simons, Pte. E. Veal, Able Seaman J.P. Harvey, Pte. A. Richards, Pte. J. Laity, Wireless Operator E.C. Smith, Signaller R.A. Curnow, Gunner G. Whitaker and Pte F. Maddock.
