I never get fed up with the mount, in the late 60 s when I did some c/van transporting, I only knew I was home when I came over Ludgvan Lees and saw the Mount, day or night, to me it was/is one of the 7 wonders of our area. ::6:
I totally agree, I used to haul a 60 trailer, but the minuite I came over the rise and saw it........ brill, home. There is nothing to beat it. I would like possibly next year to see the one in France to see if it conjured up the same feelings.
Mont St Michele is an amazing place - a mediaeval city - the extended sands and bay are overwhelming. The whole scene looks like a Fairy Tale, I too would like to get a better view than the one when I was 19. But St Michael s Mount is more real it is founded in our own consciousness, deep in our own Cornishness, that is why Michael Moorcock uses the image of the Mount and the long bay in his Corum stories, because it reaches deep into the Celtic Myth.
I had the same feeling as s55 when I was living away - as soon as the Mount came into view from the train window, I knew I was home too. Would love to spend a night up in the castle, in front of a roaring log fire watching a big storm in the bay.
