Tunnel Entrance

I'm guessing this lead up to the Quarry at one point.
cool, I`ve been up there before, it used to come out at the bottom of the Quarry, think they`ve prob blocked it up now, I remember years ago someone found some old hand grenades or something up there and the bomb disposal dudes came and took them away

Interesting! How wide inside was it? Can you (or anyone else) tell me what the building was used for near the old jetty - the one that looks like a WW11 concrete bunker, all bricked up now?

it`s quite narrow and the ceiling is quite low but I think this is because there is a lot of silt and rocks built up over the years on the floor

if it`s the one I`m thinking of I think that building was to do with the Quarry workings, is it a smallish stone hut ? they used these to hide in when they were blasting, there was a few of them around the edge of the Quarry, If I remember right they used to blast at 12 o`clock, a horn would sound and they would clear the beach and close the road, everybody would have to take shelter in these huts until the blasting was finished when they would sound a second horn to give the all clear, there used to be a big building along there, near the jetty, with a conveyor belt, the stone was taken from the Quarry on conveyor belts over the road and down into the building, then it travelled along belts across the top of the beach and down the pier and onto large boats, there used to be an old train on the beach and tracks which they used before the conveyor belt was built, I think you can still see the tracks running the lenght of the pier

I'm sure I can remember the siren going off when I was a kid in the 60's - unless my memory is playing tricks! Found a picture of the building I was referring to - the one on the lower level far right: http://www.narrow-gauge.co.uk/gallery/show.php?image_id=1268andcat_id=150

Funny how pictures brings back memories - seem to remember that what I take to be the conveyor belt went over the road and it was quite built up there either side of the road as you headed towards Mousehole. Totally forgotten about all that.

Other interesting pics can be seen at:http://www.narrow-gauge.co.uk/gallery/150 including those of the train.

cool, I remember playing on that little yellow train when I was little ::6:
