7 riders on horse ride from Land's End to John O' Groats. Leaving 2

Interesting, in the same area as Mr Perkins the Carpenter and Joiner partner of the Caldwells, the builders who built the majority of the houses in that area ...? I see an odd dotted line on the 1875 map.

I have more information on these riders, and an inadmissible picture. Just found, in my late mother s cuttings, the front page of The Express and Echo of 5th April 1949. There is a photograph of this group and the caption Mixed in the city traffic on Exe Bridge, Exeter, the party of horse lovers who are on their way to John-O -Groats are seen at the end of a wet journey from Tavistock. Today they left for Taunton.

Now there s a thing...

Curious, since they are clearly there leaving Penzance - the photograph has not been taken by a professional photographer - perhaps sold by a local walker or a part of the group to the newspaper. I think an enquiry should be made as the state of the newspaper and any dusty rights before dropping this in the ether ....

Sorry, treeve. This is my mother s own photograph, from Pz 24/03/1949. I ve just found a cutting with a photograph of the riders in Exeter on 05/04/1949. Clearly these people were in no hurry.

The picture clearly shows the gateway to Coastguard Crescent. Between the lorry and the left hand horse. Also the lorry has a Cornish registration.

Sorry, ddd. I ve confused people. My mother took this picture in Pz and the other of the riders being toasted by the mayor of Pz.
