Earth Curve

Where exactly would you see this?

And just for my curiosity, if you know what it is or what it is for, please do tell - I have no idea!
oh such a good find.....cant say I know what it is either, but I shall have a guess of where it is, maybe St Clares (next to what used to be PDC)

could this be in in Trevaylor woods ( although I can honestly say I havent a clue where this is)

First thought is as some root protection for the tree, ie water will not wash away the supporting soil. In the main, tree roots are a mirror of the branch layout, the degree of 'macrocarpa' in essence is the tree's natural response resistance to overturning. It is all a tug of forces, too much resistance and the trunk fails, too little and the tap root is strained to breaking point. You can guage this when looking at the ball of failure on wind disrupted or collapsed trees. Some trees have a full macrocarpa of fine roots, others have a mass of large roots.

Thanks treeve! My first thoughts were it was part of a mountain bike course for very tiny people ......!
