Merry Maidens

Merry Maidens (Boleigh)
19 stones in a circle.
The Victorian tale includes the Pipers,
presumably based on the tale of Robin Goodfellow
in a 17th century ballad.
The 'gap' is accepted as being a sacred opening, as at Bosawen-un.
The stones are set in the ground with a considerable sophistication,
the heights being placed to align the tops into a subtle mimicry of the waxing and waning of the moon.
Dr Borlase was certain of another circle 400 yards nearby.
The stones are 3 to 4.5 feet in height, the circle is 78 feet diameter.
