Recognise this wall? What might it tell us?

I am guessing ... the stone is very old and mixed; the stone has been scraped by something heavy; I think this is a well, and it has a heavy door over it, which lifts and rubs the wall; so maybe it tells you that you will be married in three weeks?

That the stone has been scraped by something heavy is correct - a good guess - but a well it was not so I am told by a friend who showed it to me specially. As for being married in three weeks, I have been married for nearly 36 years!

Ah, Trepolpen - the likelihood is, you ll STILL be married in 3 weeks laugh# (and no, I don t recognise the photo!)

The idea already occurred to me, BoP, don t worry! I m quite bright for a monkey! But, agendall, is almost there, and excellent thinking, except I want to know where it is to be found now. I had no idea before I was shown it! Any guesses?

Right! Coming from Newlyn, turn left after Newlyn Bridge. The groove in the wall of a house, down where there has been much renovation, was obviously once caused by a water wheel. The water level was probably made artificially high by means of a leat which must have diverted water from the river. I d appreciate more information about this area from anyone who may know. That area must be Tolcarne isn t it (Tal - Brow + Karn - rockpile) which means Brow [of a] Carn and there is a carn behind St Peter s Church where you can see the Devil s net on a rock at the top overgrown with plants nowadays. Must try to get a photo of it some time and a view down to the church.
