I ll have to concede this one, Treeve, always accepting there s only one Nine Maidens . Maidens comes from the Cornish men for stone , or Meyn for stones . Is this one also known as Boskednan stone circle, do you know? In Cornish, we call a stone circle Dons Meyn or Dance (of) stones . The Merry Maidens were supposed to have been turned to stone for dancing on a Sunday (in early Methodist days, I believe).
Boskednan is it s proper name, but we don t hold with that fancy stuff n nonsense. Up on the moors it is like being on the roof of the world. Wonderful.
