Where am I?

Bay of Plenty will recognise this straight away!
I walk past this 2 or 3 times a week, generally. It s at the lower end of The Coombe, near Chyandour. Presumably it s there in connection with the former stables across the lane, now converted to a dwelling.

This trough was placed there by the mines companies, for packs of mules as they brought the ore to the smelting works.

Interesting! I read in Courtney s Half a Century in Penzance that the mules were a common sight in Penzance sometimes passing through the town s crowded market loaded up with ore and very frisky on occasions! Imagine it!

I think some of the stubbornness has been inherited by some of us. Can you imagine the sight of up to 300 mules.
